Phillip Hinkle
In August 2011, six-term Indiana state representative Phillip Hinkle offered Kameryn Gibson, an 18 year-old man he met on Craigslist looking for a "sugga daddy," $80 cash with a tip of up to $50 or $60 "for a really good time." Hinkle emailed Gibson from his published personal email address that he was an "in shape married professional... and love getting and staying naked." Hinkle then picked up Gibson and drove him to a local Marriott hotel in downtown Indianapolis, where Gibson claims Hinkle exposed himself to him and then offered Gibson his Blackberry, iPad, and $100 in exchange for his silence. Hinkle claims they just talked about "baseball and the view," and that Gibson stole his belongings. No sexual encounter occurred. Though pressured to resign, Hinkle said resigning would be an acknowledgment that Gibson's version of the encounter was the truth. Hinkle said, "I don't know" why he had contacted Gibson and why he had used his personal email address, and asserted that "I'm not gay." Hinkle had voted that spring for a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage in Indiana.
